03 — Outreach & Service

Beyond the
lab bench.

I believe in our shared responsibility to care for our planet and all its life. I am also strongly committed to making academia more inclusive and welcoming for individuals of all identities.

I am fortunate to have worked with some organizations in Cornell, Ithaca and beyond towards these goals. Here are a few examples:

Zero Waste Ithaca outreach event
Environmental Organizing

Zero Waste & Climate Action

Supporting local and international work around waste reduction, public education, and policy change.

  • Zero Waste Ithaca, executive board member and volunteer, 2022 - Present
  • Trash pick-ups and waste audits with local organizations, 2022 - Present
  • Tabling for Zero Waste Ithaca to promote BYO (Bring Your Own) efforts at local festivals and events
  • Malayalam translation of Zero waste to Zero emissions Report for GAIA, 2024
Science outreach activity
Teaching & Community

Science Beyond Campus

Creating accessible spaces for students and community members to connect with ecology and biology.

  • Volunteered as buddy for Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) a science outreach program, 2024 & 2026
  • One of the organizers of Regional Critical Ecologies Workshop, 2025
  • As a Cornell GRASSHOPR Fellow taught about Fractals in Biology at Cayuga Heights Elementary School, 2025
  • Outreach at Northeast Elementary School about invasive species as part of a lab outreach activity, 2025
  • Outreach with local girl scouts students about guppies using mesocosm experiments at Tyson Research Center, St Louis, 2021
Academic service and equity event Aurora Berry/WSKG News
Equity & Service

Building Better Institutions

Working toward academic spaces that are more inclusive, accountable, and welcoming.

  • Member of Council for Underrepresented Voices within Society for Freshwater Science, 2026 - Present
  • Graduate student representative of department community climate committee, 2025 - Present
  • Departmental Equity Committee Chair, 2023-present
  • Department organizer and elected steward for CGSU-UE, the local graduate workers union, 2023 - Present
